Our Easter Vigil begins at 8:30 pm. We return in silence and darkness on the third day of the Triduum. This vigil service is held at nightfall to commemorate Jesus' death and the harrowing of Hell. The paschal candle is lit from the new Easter fire. the candle is carried to the altar in silence as the deacon proclaims, "Light of Christ," and we sing, "thanks be to God!" We listen to the Old Testament reading and psalms as they tell the story of Salvation History. During the Gloria, the bells ring for the first time in two days and we fill the church with our voices singing Alleluia. People receiving full initiation into the Church are given the Sacraments of Christian initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist).
