June 30-July 1 Anointing of the Sick will be held at all Masses. Pope Francis spoke about the anointing of the sick (2-25-14), “which allows us to touch with our hands God’s compassion for mankind.” Along with broadening our experience of illness and suffering, the Holy Father also points out: “Jesus had taught his disciples to have His same predilection for the sick and the suffering, and transmitted to them the capacity and the task of continuing to give consolation and peace in His name … through the special grace of this Sacrament.” The faithful who are baptized and who have reached the age of reason are eligible to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, if they are faced with a serious illness that puts them in danger of death -- even if death is not strictly imminent. If you are over the age of seven, and are in danger of death due to disease of chronic illness, or advanced age, you may receive the Sacrament of the Sick.
