November 1st the the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Roman Catholic (or Latin Rite) Church in universal law. However, with the approval of the Holy See, in particular law for the United States the obligation is lifted (not observed) when the Solemnity falls on a Saturday or a Monday (as it does this year). That is why there is only one Mass scheduled this year on November 1st. November 2nd is the Solemnity of All Souls. It is not a Holy Day of Obligation in the Roman Catholic Church, because it is not legislated as such.
